Does Kishibe Have a Devil Contract?
Yes, Kishibe is contracted with a devil, as are all human devil hunters. Denji and Power are the exceptions – the former because he’s a hybrid, with Pochita aka the original Chainsaw Man, as his heart, and the latter because she’s the Blood Fiend whose corpse was taken over by the Blood Devil. Because of their special situations, Denji and Power don’t need particular contracts, but human devil hunters very much do, as they cannot hope to fight and kill devils without help from other devils. What Are Kishibe’s Devil Contracts?
Kishibe has a contract with not just one but three devils namely, the Needle Devil, the Claw Devil, and the Knife Devil. But if you’re wondering what said contracts entail, we don’t have too much information on that, so far.
Kishibe’s Devil Contracts Explained
The sacrifice Kishibe had to make to be in a contract with the three devils in question isn’t immediately visible. Normally, being in a contract with a devil requires some form of sacrifice. For instance, Himeno had given up one of her eyes in exchange for using the Ghost Devil’s hand. Aki is in contract with the Fox Devil – who has now abandoned him. Previously, the Fox Devil would eat a piece of him every time she was called to help him. Moreover, Aki’s contract with the Curse Devil significantly reduced his lifespan. Kobeni is also contracted with a devil, but as of now, her devil contract remains a secret.
Theories About Kishibe’s Devil Contracts
The devil hunter has a number of scars that could have been created by either knives, claws, or needles, so one could theorize that working with these devils entails allowing himself to be injured by them from time to time. Of course, we’ve seen that other devils are much more demanding, permanently taking body parts, or affecting lifespans, so scars seem a little tame in comparison. Overall, Kishibe is a very stoic character who understands that one needs to be unhinged in order to survive as a devil hunter, so he wouldn’t dwell on whatever he lost for his contract. While more information on Kishibe’s devil contracts – which we find out about in the subsequent International Assassins arc – might come in later Chainsaw Man manga chapters, not knowing is scarier too, in a sense. This ambiguity adds mystery to Kishibe’s story and illustrates him as a hardcore character who isn’t afraid to make more contacts than anyone else. Want the latest on all things anime?
