Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed in a recent interview with Variety that the studio has not approached Coogler yet to helm Avengers: Secret Wars although he also iterated that he is open to working with the director in more MCU projects. “Well, I would want Ryan to do anything at any time because he’s a singular talent and a great person to spend years with,” he said. “But no, in all honesty, there’ve been no conversations. We’ve not spoken to him about Secret Wars.”
Coogler also shot down his rumored involvement in Secret Wars in the same interview where he simply said, “That’s crazy.” He also added that he is currently focusing on growing his production company Proximity Media which is also behind the upcoming MCU series Ironheart. Some fans might be disappointed with Feige’s comments since a lot of them are rooting for Coogler to take the job and he is arguably one of the best directors that are working for Marvel Studios right now. Considering the scope and stakes of the film, someone like him is the ideal person to helm the project. However, this also does not put down any chances that Coogler will end up taking the job since there is the likelihood that they will start discussing after the release of Wakanda Forever. By that time, the director’s responsibilities for the film will be over and he can figure out what’s next for his thriving directorial career.
