The recent presentation of the MCU during the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is progressive. While showcasing their whole Phase 5 slate makes sense since the MCU’s Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Feige laid out their overall Multiverse Saga plans with the announcement of the next Avengers film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Feige’s decision to reveal the MCU’s Phase 6 was very surprising since Marvel Studios is known for not revealing long-term plans.

When Kevin Feige was asked why he revealed both Phase 5 and 6, he explained that Marvel unveiled the plans for Phase 6 so that the fans will have a “guide point” early on, meaning that everything that they are doing in their recent shows and movies is leading to something.

The fact that he chose to make these announcements years before their release dates indicate that they are aware of how Phase 4 was a mess in terms of building on their storytelling. For those who might not have heard, the MCU Phase 4 has been heavily criticized for being directionless and disjointed. Feige announcing the next 2 Avengers films effectively squashes the fans’ worries that Marvel Studios is dropping the ball after the end of Infinity Saga. For context, both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame weren’t announced until the middle of the MCU Phase 2, meaning these 2 upcoming Avengers films should have been announced sometime during Phase 5.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025, while Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025.
