During the interview with Yahoo Entertainment!, R.L. Stine, writer of the original book series the films were loosely adapted from, said that there have been some “rumors” of more Fear Street films being developed by Netflix.
“I…hear rumors about more Fear Street movies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer,” Stine said. “Those films kind of shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated! All those teenagers were getting slashed. I was like, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!’”
The original Fear Street trilogy is described, “In 1994, a group of teenagers discover the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected – and they may be the next targets. Based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling horror series, Fear Street follows Shadyside’s sinister history through a nightmare 300 years in the making.”
The release of the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix was a very exciting affair, as each film debuted on consecutive Fridays, preventing the audiences and the fans from having to wait long between sequels.
With the trilogy introducing several unsettling threats, the upcoming films could surely focus on any of those characters, or the upcoming films could even explore new characters. Janiak previously said in an interview that she would like to see the Fear Street franchise become something like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“One of the exciting things about Fear Street is the fact that the universe is big and allows for a lot of space,” Janiak said in an interview with IndieWire last year. “One of the things that I talked about before I was hired was that we have a potential here to create a horror Marvel [Cinematic Universe], where you can have slasher killers from lots of different eras. You have the canon of our main mythology that’s built around the fact that the devil lives in Shadyside, so there’s also room for everything else.”
As of now, there are still no details about such films revealed, nor have any details about the filmmakers behind the project, but given the reception surrounding the original Fear Street trilogy from director Leigh Janiak, fans will be very excited to find out what the future has in store for the franchise.
