It was previously confirmed that Batgirl will no longer be moving forward and will not be released on any platform at the studio, neither in theaters nor on its streaming service HBO Max. According to studio insiders, the decision was driven by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a blockbuster scale. Although Batgirl showed a lot of promise of being a huge success right from the start, it didn’t need a huge budget since it was going to be released on HBO Max and was filmed for $90 million.
People are understandably unhappy about Warner Bros.’ decision considering that Leslie Grace and the rest of the cast and crew worked so hard on the almost-finished movie. And in the age where #ReleaseTheSnyderCut made things happen for one DC movie, fans have taken to social media to call for Batgirl to be released with the new hashtag #ReleaseBatgirl.
For now, it doesn’t look like Warner Bros. will be reversing its decision about Batgirl. Still, fans believe that they will eventually be heard and although it might take time, people are still hoping that the nearly completed movie will get the release it deserves in the future. Batgirl was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah with Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson writing the script. The film would also star Justice League actor J. K. Simmons, Jacob Scipio, Brendan Fraser, and Michael Keaton.
