Announced this June is the live-action series of Wonder Man under development in Marvel Studios with Shang-Chi’s director Destin Daniel Cretton and Hawkeye’s co-producer Ander Guest attached to the project. Now, it has been confirmed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will don the suit of Wonder Man. As reported by Deadline, the speculations about Yahya Abdul-Mateen II jumping ship from the DCU to the MCU proved true as it has been confirmed that he will be playing Wonder Man in the upcoming Disney Plus series. Abdul-Mateen II will be joining the veteran actor Ben Kingsley who will reprise his iconic role as Trevor Slattery. Other than these details, a lot are still in the shadows as the Wonder Man series is still under development. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II played the Black Manta in DCU’s Aquaman and he is set to reprise the same role in the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which will have a theatrical release on December 25, 2023.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is best know for his roles on Watchmen, The Trial of Chicago 7, The Greatest Showman, Us, Ambulance, The Matrix Resurrections among others. Wonder Man made his debut in the Marvel Comics in The Avenger #9 in 1964, created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Don Heck. He is also known as Simon Williams who got control of the munitions outfit of his father, Sandord Williams, as they compete with Stark Industries. Wonder Man has no release date yet on Disney Plus.
